As a session man, solo artist or producer, Wayne Riker's guitar virtuosity embraces a broad variety of musical styles, made all the more astonishing by the fact that he can play practically anything with fluid authority. His prowess is obvious, but the key to understanding his approach to music is that whatever the source of his musical strength, it is always used in support of the composition and the band. Riker is a dynamic player with a deep bag of fretboard tricks, such that each time he makes a new recording, I wonder if he's going to be able to top it. Kindred Souls does exactly that, but in a way that sets the bar for next time even higher.

Ten top shelf guitarists, from ten different musical worlds, all from the greater San Diego area, join me in jamming out to ten of my instrumental compositions . I've either played with, or watched live, each of these guitarists in their respective styles, all accomplished fretboard maestros. This landmark CD will take you on a one of a kind eclectic musical journey, via an authentic representation of each genre, supported by rotating rhythm sections, featuring premier bass players, drummers and percussionists from each style. The twenty-two musicians heard on this disc, are not only high level players, but consummate pros and conscientious persons, many of whom I hadn't
played with in decades, including a reunion with my brother, Walt. Google their names and learn more about their playing history, along with accompanying performance videos. I have equal respect for all the styles represented on this recording, having played in the trenches, taught, and transcribed numerous tunes in each genre. Thanks, and enjoy this unique disc, a guitar fiesta from start to finish.

Andy Ellis, Premier Guitar Magazine, April, 2012
High energy jazz fusion original instrumentals with compositional personality and high level improvisers.
This CD is my fourth instrumental disc, featuring all original
compositions, all part of a forty-five year journey on the fretboard.
I'm proud to feature four veteran musicians, each of whom I have a
long history with, and all picked for this project because of their
versatility, experience and fire in their playing. Most of these tracks
were done in a take or two, with hardly any overdubs, creating a great
live vibe in the studio.
"An album heavy on groove & melody, backed by an outstanding group of musicians....Riker's stellar tasteful fretwork is showcased throughout his nine instrumental compositions, with his guitar playing striking the perfect note throughout.".............. Bart Mendoza, freelance music journalist, February, 2011

"Fretology", the second solo instrumental guitar album from guitarist Wayne Riker features a broad spectrum of original instrumental compositions, highlighted by musical elements of blues, jazz, folk, funk, reggae and classical styles.
"Fretology is a wonderful CD by a musician on a journey.Wayne Riker can play the hell out of electric blues on a Strat,or deep bebop on a hollow body, but he wasn't content to settling into a niche. The disc exemplifies his compositional prowess, with a definite freedom of technical execution. For many, open tunings are a dead end.For Wayne, they're an open door. Fretology is a joyful snapshot of his journey."..................Andy Volk, music author(Volk Media Design),December,2008
"Throughout,Riker makes this disc a departure from many other acoustic guitar discs, particularly avoiding an unadventurous, sonic wallpaper sound by keeping his notes flowing evenly, without a missed note or fret buzz anywhere on the album............."Fretology" displays Riker's ability to compose and play complex styles, ranging from bluegrass, funk, and jazz to bluesy and genre bending improvisational tunes............"Fretology" is a great listen, easy on the ears, and presented with the mastery of an accomplished teacher"............................ .Frank Kocher (San Diego Troubadour,March,2009
"Whole battalions of musical notes ringing out, leaving the listener wondering what they just heard, but ready to go back and hear them again and again. Fretology is a welcome signpost of Riker's skills;there's something about it that forces one to pay attention and listen all the way through.Perhaps all music should be like this.Fortunately,Wayne Riker's Fretology is
